Hoy, al despertar, ha anunciado que es San Fermín, así que le he preparado la ropa sobre la cama. Faja y todo. Qué más da que sea 22 de Mayo: cada vez que se viste así, una extraña alegría resurge en sus ojos.
En su memoria, a cualquier hora estalla el chupinazo. Recorre los pasillos de la Misericordia hecho un pincel, fingiéndose entre el bullicio. Una enfermera, consintiéndole el desvarío, se marca un vals que ni la giganta Braulia. En un susurro, casi imperceptible, repite algo de un navarro que hizo a San Fermín llorar.
Entonces sucede lo mejor. Ella le espera a puerta gayola, frente al jardín. Él tararea La Dominguera mientras chasquea los dedos para azuzarla a bailar. No es imprescindible que se reconozcan para quererse. Los dejo alejarse, alargando su momentico. Sé que en realidad, ahora mismo, es 6 de Julio y están caminando de novios por esta gloriosa ciudad.
Se vuelve hacia mí con una mirada súbitamente lúcida.

Sentía una especial predilección por Barroso, uno de los mansos de la manada. Eso claro, era impensable con Atrevido.
Casi todos los años recibía la invitación de su amigo Iñaki para los Sanfermines. No era la primera vez por tanto, que se había puesto la faja roja sobre blanco y pañuelo al cuello, que había resbalado en la traidora curva de la Estafeta y su mano con el periódico había reconducido junto con su amigo y otros mozos la manada en más de una ocasión. Pero esa tarde, el propio Paco le había traído como el viento la noticia; su ganadería inauguraría este año el primer encierro de las fiestas en Pamplona.
Miraron. Buenamuerte, Atrevido, o Ventero habían aceptado. Pero Barroso seguía tranquilo rascando su lomo contra unos arbustos. No, con Barroso no podría ponerse la faja.

Probablemente el momento más triste para un pamplonica. Se acaba el encierro, se quita el vallado y afrontamos el ultimo día de nuestras queridas fiestas. Hay que aprovechar el día, despedir a los gigantes , tomar el último frito, la última cerveza, que a partir de mañana vuelve la rutina.
